Four years ago our community adopted “Total Stewardship” as a way of life for our community. In response to the suggestions of parishioners at a town meeting our approach to stewardship education was revised and the four phases of stewardship were introduced: Stewardship of Time, Stewardship of Talent, Stewardship of Treasure, Celebration of Total Stewardship.
The purpose of the four phases is to emphasize the continuous cycle of stewardship. “Stewardship as a way of Life” does not mean only on Sunday, or only giving of our money. Stewardship as a way of life requires us to put Jesus Christ first in our lives and to live every aspect for the glory of Him. It requires us to give of our Time, Talent and Treasure. Only giving one or two aspects makes us incomplete. It is only in giving of our entire self does one come to realize the graciousness and mercy of The Lord.
If you did not make a commitment for 2008 by completing a covenant card during Mass on November 18, you can turn one in during any mass by placing it in the offertory basket.
How do we become servants like Jesus? What do we have to offer our community in service? There are many gifts large and small. Not all gifts are widely visible.
Maybe this is the year you move out of your comfort zone and commit to a ministry, or help out with a once a year event such as the Autumn Affair or Oktoberfest, or a ministry where you can set your own hours such as the Church dusting group. Maybe you are being called to serve the community at large and would like to be involved in the Interfaith Hospitality Ministry or head up a mission trip for the parish.
We are blessed with so many ministry and gift opportunities here at Queen of Peace! Do you know how you would like to use your talents to serve and grow in your relationship with the Lord? If you have any questions or need assistance please contact Erica Hartge at 332-6279, ext. 29 or ehartge@queenofpeaceparish.org .
Good stewardship is more than giving of your time, talent, and financial resources to the church. It should be reflected in every aspect of your life.
“Stewardship is based on an individual’s need to give, not the church’s need to receive.”
