Sacraments † Marriage
The Queen of Peace Catholic Community wishes to support couples as they prepare for the Sacrament of Marriage through prayer and action. For this reason, guidelines have been established for marriage preparation, not to create obstacles, but to increase the opportunity of a lasting, loving marriage in a society where divorce is prevalent.
In order for weddings to take place at Queen of Peace, it is important that the preparation guidelines be successfully completed in a timely fashion. Those who have never been married before need to contact the office at least six months prior to your anticipated wedding date to sign up for the next orientation session. If either you has been married previously, you need to contact the office at least one year prior to your anticipated wedding date. The marriage preparation process is explained in detail during the orientation sessions, which are held every other month.
After attending the orientation session, you will be able to set a date for the wedding at the church and will be assigned a priest who will work with the couple through the preparation process as well as conduct the wedding service. The wedding date will not be set any sooner than 6 months after the orientation session. Do not book the reception hall, florist, caterer, buy airline tickets for the family, etc. before the wedding date is set and confirmed.
In addition to meeting with a priest, you will be asked at a minimum to take FOCCUS, attend diocesan programs (registration is mandatory for these programs), and meet with a specially trained Sponsor Couple in the Parish. We have found these programs vital to properly preparing couples for a lifetime of loving commitment to each other. As such, all required preparation must be completed before any of our priests will conduct the wedding. It is our hope that all our engaged couples spend much more time preparing themselves for their marriage than over the details of the wedding day.
We look forward to working with you to make your special day and the rest of your lives a beautiful testament to the love God has for us and the love you have for each other!
