Sacraments † Baptism
At Baptism, infants and pre-school children are initiated into the Christian community and begin a life-long journey as a committed disciple of Christ. Since the infant or small child cannot make this commitment on their own, the parent who requests Baptism for their child states that they wish to transmit the faith in which they believe and live to their child.
Parents are the first teachers of their children in the church of the home. It is in the domestic church where children learn about God's love as they receive love and care from their parents. It is through the modeling of the parents that children learn about faith, trust, hope, commitment and forgiveness.
Parents wishing to have their infant or pre-school child baptized are required to attend a Baptism Preparation Class. This class gives them an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of Baptism and to have questions answered concerning the Sacrament of Baptism and the ceremony. Baptism Preparation classes are held on the first or second Tuesday of the month (except during July) from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Registration for the class is required and packets may be picked up from the parish office or by calling 332-6279. Registration information must be returned to the office no later than the week before the class you wish to attend.
