Youth Ministry
Pathfinders is the Queen of Peace Youth Group program for grades six through eight. We meet Sunday afternoons from 3 p.m. until 5:15 p.m. We do a multitude of activities which impart (we hope) scripture and the teachings of the Catholic Church in such a way that your child will learn, retain and use what he or she learns. For more information, or to register a student in Pathfinders, call Deacon Bo Turner in the church office, ext. 54 or at BoTurner@aol.com.
A Corner on Tithes
“Tithe” is generally defined as "the tenth part of the increase arising from the profits of land and stock, allotted to the clergy for their support or devoted to religious or charitable uses". The custom of giving tithes reaches back into unknown antiquity. It is mentioned in Gen 14. Just as Abraham is there represented as offering tithes of the spoils of the enemy to the royal priest, Melchisedech, so in Gen 28, Jacob is recorded as giving a tithe of all his possessions to the Lord. Under the Mosaic Law, the Hebrews are commanded to offer to God the tenth part of the produce of the fields, of the fruits of the trees, and the firstborn of oxen and of sheep (Lev 27:30; Deut 14:22). While it was to God Himself that the tithes had to be paid, yet we read (Num 18:21) that He transfers them to His sacred ministers: "I have given to the sons of Levi all the tithes of Israel for a possession, for the ministry wherewith they serve me in the tabernacle of the covenant."
Questions about Tithing or Stewardship?
Feel free to call and ask questions or discuss anything on your mind regarding tithing and/or stewardship in general. Each month a different member of the Queen of Peace Stewardship Council is available by phone or to meet with you in person to share with you their stewardship journey experience, to discuss the biblical support for tithing, to discuss tithing in general or specifically at Queen of Peace, or to simply listen to your thoughts and/or concerns. Please call Jeff or Ellen at 338-1354. We would love to hear from you.
We invite you to prayerfully consider joining members of our faith family in completing your covenant so that together we can respond gratefully to God's abundant blessings. For more information, please visit the Stewardship page.

Benedict XVI Encyclical Letter, God Is Love
The first encyclical of Pope Benedict XVI issued on January 25, 2006, delves into the different forms of love — eros and agape, human and divine — and shows that they are not irreconcilable, but actually are unified in God's love. The Holy Father says, "Today the word 'love' is so tarnished, so spoiled and so abused, that one is almost afraid to pronounce it with one's lips, And yet, it is a primordial word, expression of the primordial reality. "We cannot simply abandon it, we must take it up again, purify it and give back to it its original splendor so that it might illuminate our life and lead it on the right path. This awareness led me to choose love as the theme of my first encyclical." Pope Benedict XVI Encyclical Letter, God Is Love
