Worship Ministers
There are many ways to serve the community during the Mass and
other liturgical events. All of these ministries are vital to creating a
meaningful worship experience for all present.

Sacristans prepare the liturgical items needed for masses and other
liturgical assemblies. They ensure all items needed by the celebrant are in good
working order and assist as necessary to create a spiritual environment for
worship. Sacristans must be able to arrive at least 30-60 minutes before the
mass when scheduled.

All children who are 10 years or older, at least in 4th grade, and have
received 1st Communion are eligible to be trained as altar servers. Altar
servers assist the priest and deacon during weekend masses and on other liturgical occasions.
Servers must be dependable, have a deep respect for liturgies and demonstrate a
willingness to serve GOD, priest and parish.
Adults who wish to serve are invited to assist at the 8:00am Mass on Sundays
as well as the 8:00am daily mass.

Lectors proclaim the Word of God at masses, liturgies, and other prayer
gatherings. Proclaiming the Word is more than simply reading out loud, lectors
are expected to attend training sessions and prayerfully prepare their assigned
readings in such a manner as to bring the Word alive to the congregation.
Requires a good, clear speaking voice.

Eucharistic Ministers (EM's) assist the priest during the distribution of
communion during the mass. All active members of the parish who have been
baptized, received 1st Communion, have been confirmed, and demonstrate a deep
love and respect for the Eucharist are eligible to apply to become an EM. All
candidates MUST be approved by the pastor before they will be trained.

Ushers assist at all weekend masses and other liturgies when a large number
of participants are expected. They welcome and seat people, assist in taking up
the offering, guide the flow of the congregation during Communion, distribute
the bulletin and other items after mass, and perform other duties to assist in
the comfort and safety of everyone participating in the liturgy. This ministry
is not restricted only to men. Everyone, young and old, who is responsible and
dedicated to serve is encouraged to volunteer.

While all ministers and members of the congregation are asked to help welcome
community members and visitors as they come to Church, Greeters take the lead in
providing a pleasant welcome to everyone. Individuals and families who
participate in this ministry are also asked to bring the community's gifts to
the altar during Mass. Greeters are asked to arrive at least 20 minutes prior to
Mass, otherwise a friendly smile and warm handshake are all that is required.

Arts & Environment ministers help to plan, prepare and execute the
interior and exterior decorating of the church to visually enhance the liturgy.
While Easter and Christmas are the two big decorating seasons, visual aids to
the liturgical environment are needed throughout the year. A strong visual sense
and decorating abilities are helpful.
Special note: We are looking for a special volunteer to coordinate this
ministry. This person should have a strong decorating sense as well as a good
feel for how to express liturgical concepts in an appropriate visual fashion and
coordinate other volunteers to pull it all together.

Visit the sick Parishioners at local hospitals, nursing facilities and home
as scheduled and bring them Communion. Visiting EM's must have the ability to be tactful, kind, and compassionate. They are not to counsel or give advice. Their duty is to administer the
Sacrament according to the specified rite. Fingerprints and background check are
required. In addition to attending EM training, Visiting Ministers are required
to attend a Protecting God's Children™ session.
