- About the Day of Reflection
The weekend of January 19 and 20, 2018 is a special opportunity to affirm our faith and to spend some time with the Lord without the interruptions of daily life. On that weekend, we hold our annual parish retreat. Open to everyone, all ages, as well as to those from outside the parish, this retreat is a way for us to seek the continual conversion for which we strive and to move closer to discipleship as the Lord has called us.
For over 10 years, this retreat has been a staple in our parish faith process. In recent years, attendees numbering between 150 and 200 have taken advantage of this opportunity. A retreat refreshes and revitalizes, gives the opportunity for more time spent in prayer and contemplation, and rekindles and deepens one’s relationship with God. This is an opportunity to hear more clearly God’s call and to seek God’s healing grace, and thereby attain a degree of spiritual renewal. The purpose of a spiritual retreat, as an addition to daily spiritual activities, is to temporarily leave behind the usual distractions we all face for a time long enough to allow relaxation and for an inner change to occur – the ongoing conversion of heart that is critical to deepening faith.
“Our annual retreat is a time for people to put themselves in the presence of God, to hear testimonies and witnesses to faith in action, to meet others, and to share our own faith with those around us,” says Naim Erched, one of this year’s retreat co-leaders. “There is absolutely no cost for attending, and meals and snacks are provided,” Naim says. “It is appropriate for whole families to attend. We understand that people’s schedules can be hectic. If they can only attend Friday evening, they are still welcome, or if they can only attend Saturday, they are welcome also. Sometimes, our lives seem to be moving so quickly that we do not take the time to pause and thank God and to enjoy His presence. All we ask is that people come with an open heart and an open mind.”
